Look for something new and different at FENCETECH/DECKTECH’11 in Las Vegas. The Access Control Demo will premiere in conjunction with the popular deck and outdoor demos at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, February 8-10. “We’re very excited about this new addition,” said Lynn Hayworth, CFP and chair of the show. “There’s no question that access control is emerging as a significant component of our industry, and having an Access Control Demo area makes perfect sense.”
FENCETECH/DECKTECH continues to evolve and will once again featured quality educational programs and great hands-on training opportunities. The Access Control Demo will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during show hours. A specific schedule of show floor lectures and live demonstrations are being developed by show management and the committee. Details will be contained in the attendee/registration brochure. Lynn Hayworth, CFP recently shared her thoughts on the 2011 show and the new demo area with Fencepost Magazine, the official magazine of the American Fence Association. Read the interview after the jump!
Fencepost: Why the addition of the Access Control Demo area?
Hayworth: FENCETECH is all about helping AFA contractors improve and grow their businesses. And access control is becoming more and more important, driven in large part by Homeland Security issues. Fence contractors are fielding more inquiries and requests for greater security, and the Access Control Demo is another opportunity for attendees to increase their skill set.

Fencepost: What else is being offered for Access Control?
Hayworth: The 2011 show will offer high tech security, gate operators and access control seminars. We will also offer sessions that focus on the new ASTM guidelines associated with high security installation. So, again, our members and attendees can get the latest specs and be in position to provide quality installation.
Fencepost: That sounds great. Anything else?
Hayworth: Absolutely. The education program will also focus on helping AFA members and attendees sharpen their sales skills, learn how to diversify or add to their business, as well as become informed on legal issues that currently affect them. Buck Buchanan, CAGOI, Operator Installer School (OIS) Chair, and OIS instructors will present two FREE seminars dedicated to important components of the school.

Fencepost: It seems that FENCETECH is really emphasizing learning opportunities. How does that fit in with its mission?
Hayworth: We are committed to helping our members expand their knowledgebase and this venue offers a great opportunity to gain practical information that can make a difference in their businesses. We’re positioning FENCETECH’11 as the “gateway to success” with emphasis on education, information, certification and demonstration. And, of course, members can meet directly with manufacturers and suppliers and see what’s new in the industry.
Fencepost: With an economy still slow to recover, how does an AFA member justify the expense of attending the show?
Hayworth: FENCETECH’11 will offer even greater value for everyone from business owners to foremen, crew members to office personnel. Again, the educational aspects are all geared to helping each AFA member be more competitive and more successful in the marketplace.
